A hobo is a crescent with more room: a soft, slouchy body that flattens against you when it is half empty and opens wide when it is full. It is the shape people move to when a crescent stops being enough.

What is the difference between a crescent and a hobo?

A crescent has a shallower curve and a shorter strap, so it sits under the arm. A hobo is deeper and slouchier and hangs lower. Crescents carry a phone, wallet and keys. Hobos take a book and a bottle as well.

Do they stand up on their own?

No. A quilted bag with no frame slumps softly when it is empty. That is the trade for the weight.

Which shape holds a bottle upright?

The bucket and barrel shapes. Anything under about four inches deep will let a half litre bottle lie down, and a bottle lying down is how a lining gets wet.
